Every now and then, someone comes along and perfectly expresses something you’ve been feeling. I recently read an interview with Beau Willimon, the creator of House of Cards, where he said,
“When both people are right, but not right to each other, then you have conflict.”
I’ve understood this concept for a long time now. In fact, I wrote a post on the subject back in 2013. But I never took the time to refine it and boil it down to its basic elements like that. Truth be told, I wasn’t even aware that my feelings could be boiled down to such a succinct statement.
As I’ve mentioned before, I hate reductionist thinking gone awry. As a result, I sometimes avoid it unnecessarily. So I’m glad I read this interview, and I’m thankful for this quote.
That is all.
