This book was my introduction to Mark Batterson’s work. In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day served as a springboard to his later books and to his church’s sermon podcasts. And I have to say that I’m thrilled I found his writings.
While I can’t say that Batterson has a breathtaking way with words, I do find his simplicity and candidness refreshing. More than that, the passion he has for his goals (and life in general) have inspired me tremendously over the years. In fact, this book was one of the key reassurances for me in deciding to step out and begin my writing career.
Writing can be difficult, to say the least. Writing a full novel can be daunting. And trying to make a successful go as a debut novelist can be terrifying. The message Batterson gave through In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day provided the courage I needed to finally step out and do it after so many years of hesitation.
That alone is worth the trip.
